O Dicionário
The project CONNECTING PORTUGUESE HISTORY. Digital Dictionary
of the Modern World is an initiative of the Institute of Contemporary
History (IHC) and the Associate Laboratory IN2PAST. Launched in 2024,
the dictionary gathers contributions from historians and social scientists
from both Portuguese and foreign universities. Following a tradition in
Portuguese historiography based on the production of dictionaries of
reference, the dictionary is aimed at all those interested in modern and
contemporary history. However, differently from the aforementioned
tradition, our dictionary exclusively hosts contributions that engage in
transnational, comparative, or global perspectives, or that stress the
importance of the Portuguese colonial past for modern and
contemporary history. All entries are peer-reviewed and published in
both Portuguese and English. Due to both its format (digital, multilingual,
in open-access) and methodological approach (transnational,
comparative, global), the dictionary aims to become an important tool to
promote the integration of Portuguese history in international
historiographical debates. Every January the dictionary publishes new
entries.
